The new group exhibition of the artists' association in Wiesbaden's Walkmühle is dedicated to a phenomenon that is not only a basic precondition for life on our planet and plays a significant role in the upcoming social and technical transformation processes with regard to our future energy supply, but is also the subject and elementary means of design in art: light. The show with twenty-four artists includes analogue and digital works from the fields of painting, photography and video, as well as works that work directly with light and sunlight and participatory installations that make it possible to experience the energy of light using current projection, sensor and programming technology. The exhibition is accompanied by an interdisciplinary programme of guided tours, workshops and performances. Participating in the exhibition are: ANDREAS BAUSCH MARGIT BAYER FRIEDRICH BOELL ULLI BÖHMELMANN EDGAR DIEHL FRÉDÉRIC ECKER ANDREA FLEMMING GILBERT GEISTER HANNAH A. HOVERMANN ELFI KNOCHE-WENDEL JOHANNES NANDU KRIESCHE STEFAN LANG SUSAN HELEN MILLER UTE OSTERMANN HENRIKE PILZ KATJA VON PUTTKAMER BETTY RIECKMANN ASTRID SCHENK BERNHARD SCHMERL CLAUS STOLZ KARIM TEUFEL WULF WINCKELMANN SIMONE ZAUGG From the incidence of light at the Pantheon to the installations of James Turell, from the light painting of the Impressionists to the light art of the present day: rays of light bundle together today at the focal point of technological, human and artistic questions and solutions. With its exhibition "The Energy of Light", the artists' association Walkmühle would like to make a contribution to this topic, which holds relevant impulses for our future under social, technological, sustainable and artistic-aesthetic aspects. As an essential element of art, the energy of light also literally appears in a "new light" against the background of the current crises.: For a long time, energy was supplied from the dark depths of the earth - in the form of coal, oil and gas. Forward-looking technologies use the energy of light more directly. With thermal and photovoltaic solar cells, organic solar cells, solar thermal power plants, research into processes for using photosynthesis and others, research and engineering are increasingly turning directly to light and the energy of the sun. With this thematic exhibition, we want to understand light both as an element of art and as a way out of the global crises of the destruction of nature and global warming. The exhibition will be accompanied by an extensive programme of interdisciplinary events on the topic.
